Do you have an upcoming move but are a bit overwhelmed by all of the things that you need to pack? Even if you are moving into a bigger home, now may be the time to purge some of those old belongings that you don't need anymore. It will either save time on moving the items for a local move or reduce the weight of the load for a long-distance move to save money. Here are a few tips for purging items in your home.

Purge Your Closet

One place where you likely have a ton of stuff you don't want anymore is your closet. If your current closet is overflowing, but you feel like you are only wearing certain clothes, then you should consider getting rid of all the things that you do not wear. They may be the wrong size, out of style, or something old that you've recently replaced with new items. The good news is that plenty of your old clothing can be donated, as long as it is in good condition.

Purge Your Kitchen

Your kitchen is another room of the home that has plenty of things that you can get rid of. While you should be trying to eat everything that you can during those final days in your current home, you'll likely get down to those items that you simply do not want anymore. If they are packaged or canned good items that are still good, you can donate them to a local food pantry.

In addition, you'll also want to purge the kitchen items that you simply don't use anymore. If you have single-purpose appliances that haven't been used in years, like that panini press, consider donating it as well. If you can't remember the last time you've used it, you'll likely not miss it if it's gone.

Purge Your Basement

Chances are that your basement is filled with things that you do not need anymore. Head down there, and go through old boxes that have not been opened in years. You likely have things that you didn't even know existed, and no longer have a use for. Toss, recycle, or sell these items to reduce the clutter of extra boxes on moving day.

Purge Your Garage

Another area that tends to be overflowing with junk is your garage or shed. Between old tools that have been replaced and old landscaping items that are no longer necessary, you can likely empty out the shed and eliminate a lot of things that you do not need anymore.
